Second Annual Salt Lake "Undies Run"

September 9, 2012
Early Evening

I am putting together a team of supporters for the Second Annual Salt Lake "Undies Run", in the early evening of September 9. Yes, you will really be running (up a hill and everything), but you can do it at your own pace, and walk as much as you need. The point of the event is to make Utah a little less "uptight", and last year many people had political slogans on clothes or bodies. We will making special "uniforms" (pretty small ones) for those brave and willing to do this. Contact me for details. This is a wonderful opporuntity to spread the word to those who are mostl likely to be willing to hear it.

Watch for news of fund-raising activities at local taverns or restaurants in the near future.

It has just been announced that President Bush will speak to the American Legion Convention in Salt Lake City on August 30. The mayor has announced that there will be a protest rally that day. For those of us who believe our constitutional rights are in grave danger from this admisnistration, this is the chance to get out and say it. Plan on being there. Stay tuned for more details.

Please come and support freedom in our country. I have been a member of the Board of Directors of this organization, off and on for twenty years.

Early May
Law Day

The United States celebrates Law Day on or around May 1. Traditionally, the Utah Attorney General has a big fund-rasing activity that week in order to make sure he gets re-elected. Scroll back on my blogs and find out what we did to counter that event last year. We will be planning some kind of small fund-raising and fun event around the same time this year (so as not to conflict with the ACLU dinner on May 4). Keep checking here, and we will update this information as soon as possible.

April 29, 2006 10 AM

The Libertarian Party of Utah will hold its annual nominating convention at the Salt Lake County Commission Chambers at 2001 South State in Salt Lake City. We usually also hold our annual fundraising dinner that same evening, with an interesting speaker. there has been some talk of making that a luncheon this year, so people from out of town do not have to stay around all day. Stay tuned for details.

FROM NOW UNTIL APRIL 15:

Please remember to Check off the Libertarian Party for a $1.00 donation on your Utah State Income Tax. This does not increase your tax, and it will greatly help our efforts to build our party. Note that the Personal Choice Party has decided to decline tax check-off money, so if you were tempted to make this donation to them, it will simply go back to the State. This money is a major part of our Party funding, but not close to what the "Major parties" receive. It is quick and easy, and enables us to compete with them. THANKS!

Wednesday, February 22, 2006 6:00 PM

Several organizations, including the ACLU and MoveOn.Org, will be hosting a one hour vigil in Pioneer Park in protest of unlawful wiretapping without warrants. Come on down and join us to tell our government that the Fourth Amendment, which prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures, is still valid.

WELCOME BACK TO CRAZY GOAT!
Thursday, November 17,
from 5 PM to 7 PM

Join me at the celebration of the reopening of the Crazy Goat Saloon on Thursday, November 17, from 5 PM to 7 PM. there will be free beer and food (underwritten by a patron). For those who have wanted a fall First Amendment Tour, I will be available to lead any interested people to one or two of my other clients at around 7 PM. This represents a major victory for First Amendment rights in Utah, and a great cause for celebration. The Crazy Goat is in Arrow Press Square, bounded by 100 South, 200 South, Main and West Temple, in the middle of the block. the best way to get there might be by Trax, as parking is a little tricky.

See you there.

Saturday, September 24, 2005
11:00 A.M Rally at Liberty Park

There will be a Peace Rally in LIberty Park in Salt Lake City at 11:00 A.M., marching to City Hall at Noon for speakers and music. Join us in protesting government policies which restrict our liberties and reduce our country's image in the world.

First Amendment Tour
(Date in June not yet set)

We will hold another of our famous First Amendment Tours sometime in June, on a date that best suits those who are interested. This tour will go to two or three gentlemen's clubs over the course of an evening, to enjoy the dancers, to support the right of free expression, and to enjoy the company of the group. This will be informally held in conjunction with the local ACLU affiliate. No cover charge will be required, but we will expect those who come to bring tipping money. At least one stop will include a club which serves good food. We would be glad to take ACLU memberships that evening. or contributions for the fight to overthrow the Attorney General's office.

Those interested, please e-mail me with your general interest, the nights you are NOT available, and what night of the week generally works best. I will figure it all out and post a time and starting place soon. This could be in conjunction with the Crazy Goat celebration but might not be. andy4utahag@prodigy.net

Annual (unofficial) ACLU First Amendment Tour -- It looks like June 10 is a good day for most people (sorry, Karen), so the Tour is scheduled for then. We will start at about 7 PM at the Crazy Goat Saloon, which is in the middle of the block (Arrow Press Square) bounded by W. Temple (W), 100 South (N), Main (E) and 200 South (S). We will stay about an hour or so and then go down to American Bush (no alcohol) 2630 South 300 West. Most likely we will end up at Million Dollar Saloon (good food as well as drinks) at about 3400 S. State. If you can't come near 7 PM, check with me about cell phone connections or whatever, so you can join us when you can. I am still not confirmed with Million, so we might have to use an alternative, Southern Exposure, about 5000 S. State, which also has both food and drinks. More news as it is confirmed. Hope to see you all there. Bring a friend. The more the merrier.

Friday, June 10 -- Evening
Victory Celebration

I recently assisted in a winning effort to avoid the closure of Salt Lake City's only downtown Gentlemen's Club, the Crazy Goat. This night we will have a victory celebration with plenty of drinks, food, pretty girls and people like you and me who value freedom. Please stop by to help us celebrate this important victory over the forces of censorship. The Club is in Arrow Press Square bounded by West Temple and Main Street, and also by 100 south and 200 South. the best ways to enter are from the West, across from the Salt Palace, or from the South, just to the West of the Capitol Theatre. See you there. Bring a friend.
(Those who oppose censorhsip, please see my blog entry of 5/21/20, and the link to "Heart of the Beholder").

May 4, 2005
Pizza Party for Law Day (evening)

On Wednesday, May 4, Attorney General Shurtleff will be holding a fund raising dinner for $150 per person, at the Wells Fargo Building on Main St. between 200 and 300 South, starting at 6 PM. Because the current attorney general never stops campaigning, it is very difficult for anyone to start a campaign only a few months before the election, and still have a chance of winning.

Those of us who support an alternative candidate for Attorney General in the next election will be meeting in front of the building at 6 PM. to extend our "welcome" to Mr. Shurtleff's special guest, John Ashcroft, the former U.S. Attorney General. We ask those who come (and those who can't come but who support our goal) to donate $20 to our campaign fund. We will be going for pizza about 7 PM. See you there. And see my Contributions page to make your donation in advance.

April 30, 2005
Libertarian Party Annual Convention and dinner>

The Libertarian Party of Utah will hold its convention at the Salt Lake County Council chambers at 2001 South State in Salt Lake on April 30, starting at 10:00 AM. there will be several interesting speakers, and elections will be held for party officers for the next two years. There may also be changes in the party constitution and by-laws. Voting is open to dues paying party members, but anyone may attend. To pay your dues, contact me or go to www.lputah.org

That evening the party will have its annual dinner at the Organ Loft, 331 S. Edison St (just south of the Century Theatres) in Salt Lake. Tickets will be $25. This evening is always a fun break from the serious side of politics. Everyone is welcome to this, but we also need a count in advance, so don't wait until the last minute.

Tickets for the dinner are $25 if paid for by April 8. Thereafter, they are $35.00 All reservations must be finalized by April 25.

FROM NOW UNTIL APRIL 15

March 18, 2005
ACLU of Utah Annual Bill of Rights Celebration

This fun annual event will be held at the Orangerie at Red Butte Gardens on March 18, starting at 6:00 PM. There will be "substantial D'oeuvres", drinks and mingling. The speaker will be Ambassador Joseph Wilson, who was asked by the State Department to investigate reports that Iraq was trying to buy uranium in Niger for nuclear weapons. When he reported that the rumor was false, and the President's assertions in his State of the Union address were not true, his wife's identity as a CIA agent was leaked to the press, putting many people in danger. Should be a FASCINATING evening. Contact me for tickets or the ACLU at www.acluutah.org Tickets are $85, and the deadline for purchase is March 11.

January 20, 2005
Not One Damn Dime Day

It's an anti-Bush inauguration protest at 5 pm at the SLC Federal Building. Hope to see you all there.

Since our religious leaders will not speak out against the war in Iraq, since our political leaders don't have the moral courage to oppose it, Inauguration Day, Thursday, January 20th, 2005 is "Not One Damn Dime Day" in America. On "Not One Damn Dime Day" those who oppose what is happening in our name in Iraq can speak up with a 24-hour national boycott of all forms of consumer spending. During "Not One Damn Dime Day" please don't spend money. Not one damn dime for gasoline. Not one damn dime for necessities or for impulse purchases. Not one damn dime for nothing for 24 hours. On "Not One Damn Dime Day," please boycott Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target... Please don't go to the mall or the local convenience store. Please don't buy any fast food (or any groceries at all for that matter). For 24 hours, please do what you can to shut the retail economy down. The object is simple. Remind the people in power that the war in Iraq is immoral and illegal; that they are responsible for starting it and that it is their responsibility to stop it. "Not One Damn Dime Day" is to remind them, too, that they work for the people of the United States of America, not for the international corporations and K Street lobbyists who represent the corporations and funnel cash into American politics. "Not One Damn Dime Day" is about supporting the troops. The politicians put the troops in harm's way. Now 1,200 brave young Americans and (some estimate) 100,000 Iraqis have died. The politicians owe our troops a plan - a way to come home. There's no rally to attend. No marching to do. No left or right wing agenda to rant about. On "Not One Damn Dime Day" you take action by doing nothing. You open your mouth by keeping your wallet closed. For 24 hours, nothing gets spent, not one damn dime, to remind our religious leaders and our politicians of their moral responsibility to end the war in Iraq and give America back to the people. Please share this email with as many people as possible who you believe share these views.
